The Iraq War, or the War in Iraq (also referred to as the Occupation of Iraq, the Second Gulf War, or Operation Iraqi Freedom by the United States military), was a conflict that occurred in Iraq from March 20, 2003 to December 15, 2011, though sectarian violence continues since and has caused hundreds of fatalities.
Prior to the war, the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom claimed that Iraq's alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) posed a threat to their security and that of their coalition/regional allies. In 2002, the United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 1441 which called for Iraq to completely cooperate with UN weapon inspectors to verify that Iraq was not in possession of WMD and cruise missiles. The United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) found no evidence of WMD, but could not verify the accuracy of Iraq's declarations regarding what weapons it possessed. Lead weapons inspector Hans Blix advised the UN Security Council that while Iraq was cooperating in terms of access, Iraq's declarations with regards to WMD still could not be verified.
Iraq borders Syria to the northwest, Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Jordan to the southwest and Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to the south. Iraq has a narrow section of coastline measuring 58 km (36 mi) on the northern Persian Gulf. The capital city, Baghdad is in the center-east of the country.
Two major rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, run through the center of Iraq, flowing from northwest to southeast. These provide Iraq with agriculturally capable land and contrast with the steppe and desert landscape that covers most of Western Asia.
The current crisis in Iraq explained in under 5 minutes.
There is war in Iraq? Again? And the US and Iran are talking about working together? And who is this ISIS Terrorist group that is all over the news? And Religion? Oh dear... When exactly has the world gone mad again?
It is not possible to explain a complicated topic like this without simplification. We are very aware that this video is not painting a full picture of the situation. But we hope that it may lay the foundation on which you can try to do your own research and understand how horribly Fu**ed up the whole situation is.

It is not possible to explain a complicated topic like this without simplification. We are very aware that this video is not painting a full picture of the situation. But we hope that it may lay the foundation on which you can try to do your own research and understand how horribly Fu**ed up the whole situation is.
We did have to produce the video super fast -- thanks a lot to our friends Martin Wackerbauer and Magnus Schlüter for helping us out -- we would not have been able to make this video in time without you guys!
Kurzgesagt loves all people as long as they don't hurt others and don't hinder mankind on its quest to the stars. So it was very sad to read so much terrible stuff about the situation in Iraq. Hopefully it will get better.

Iraqi soldiers faced a a huge blast caused by the massive explosion of an IS Vbied right in front their position in Baiji Iraq. The soldiers were aware of the approaching vehicle and took cover behind a mound just moments before the detonation and following shockwave. The attack was filmed from an overwatch position behind the Iraqi line and gives a good overview of the happenings. The attack seems to have apparently failed since the Iraqi soldiers targeted by the SVBIED seem mostly unharmed after the explosion.
This footage is part of an ongoing documentary of the war in Iraq through raw combat footage.

In just a matter of days, the Al-Qaeda splinter group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has seized major cities in Iraq, including Tikrit and Mosul. In doing so, the Islamic insurgents claim to have killed hundreds of Shiite Iraqi security forces. They now sit on the doorstep of the capital city of Baghdad. TVO Foreign Affairs Analyst Janice Stein, syndicated columnist and author Eric Margolis and York University Professor Thabit Abdullah sit down with Steve Paikin to discuss the terrorist group's offensive and goals, the ethnic tensions that spurred their growth, and what the response will be from countries that were at war in Iraq only three years ago.

In Western Ukrainian fascists (Nazis) has its heroes. This is Bandera, Shukhevych who were servants of Hitler in World War II.
So..There is a war between the Russians, the local population that lives here 1000 years and the Nazi government in Kiev, which the United States led to

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that both the invasion of Iraq by the US and the West's intervention in Afghanistan in the nineteen eighties, were crucial to the ongoing conflict in Syria, during an interview with RT's Lizzie Phelan and Sargon Hadaya and other Russian journalists in Damascus.
Bashar al-Assad, Syrian President (Arabic): "You might be surprised if I tell that the crucial juncture in what happened in Syria is something that many people wouldn't even think of. According to IOM, one out of five displaced Iraqis are living in critical conditions, in unfinished buildings and informal settlements. The organization said most of the displaced are from the three provinces of Anbar, Nineveh and Salahuddin. These areas have seen the worst fighting between the Iraqi army and the Daesh Takfiri terrorists. The IOM says the war-stricken Iraqis are in need of non-food relief, shelter, healthcare and social support to survive.

Inside Shia militia in Iraq
Iran was the only outside power that deployed advisers and special forces in the country when IS took control of Mosul and directly organised the anti-IS offensive.
However, it does not have the same level of influence over all militia.
Shia militia have their own differences and fought one another over the past decade. However, when IS seized control of much of northern and western Iraq they unified as part of a concerted effort to defend their country and places of worship.
This is not to say that intra-Shia clashes will not take place again in the future.
To swell the ranks of the anti-IS forces, in the absence of a functioning Iraqi army,

Gulf War Documentary: Desert Storm Ground War (Iraq War Documentary Full)

The war is also known under other names, such as the Persian Gulf War, First Gulf War, Gulf War I, Kuwait War,First Iraq War, or Iraq War before the term "Iraq War" became identified instead with the 2003 Iraq War. The Iraqi Army's occupation of Kuwait that began 2 August 1990 was met with international condemnation, and brought immediate economic sanctions against Iraq by members of the U.N. Security Council. U.S. President George H. W. Bush deployed U.S. forces into Saudi Arabia and urged other countries to send their own forces to the scene. An array of nations joined the Coalition, the largest military alliance since World War II. The great majority of the Coalition's military forces were from the U.S., with Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and Egypt as leading contributors, in that order.
The initial conflict to expel Iraqi troops from Kuwait began with an aerial and naval bombardment on 17 January 1991, continuing for five weeks. This was followed by a ground assault on 24 February. This was a decisive victory for the Coalition forces, who drove the Iraqi military from Kuwait and advanced into Iraqi territory. The Coalition ceased its advance and declared a cease-fire 100 hours after the ground campaign started. Aerial and ground combat was confined to Iraq, Kuwait, and areas on Saudi Arabia's border. Iraq launched Scud missiles against Coalition military targets in Saudi Arabia and against Israel.

War in Iraq The Americans are killing Iraqis
Briefly about the war in the Donbass.
I do not know how in the West, Russians believe the concept of "Nazism" and "fascism" as synonyms. When we say "Kiev Nazis" or "fascists from Western Ukraine," we mean the same thing.
Namely, people who are obsessed with Hitler about the superiority of one race or nation over others.
In Western Ukrainian fascists (Nazis) has its heroes. This is Bandera, Shukhevych who were servants of Hitler in World War II.
So..There is a war between the Russians, the local population that lives here 1000 years and the Nazi government in Kiev, which the United States led to power.
As a result of the bloody coup, the Nazis from Western Ukraine came to power.
They are a minority, and in the case of democratic elections, they would never have come to power. Then the United States made a bloody coup, as they are able to do it all over the world.
Thus, the United States went to war against the Russian population of the South and East of Ukraine, who lived here 1,000 years and no where to go will not, of course.
I'd like to work for the Russian government, but do not work.
And actually just want to help as best I can. To bring the truth to the world. Free of charge and at the expense of their own time.
I do not know about a help from Russia. Maybe it goes. Also, do not know, maybe go help with the West for Kiev.
What else?
Russian Donbas really fighting against fascism! The Nazis came to power in Kiev seriously consider themselves a superior race. It's funny to hear for non-Ukrainians. But it is. Ukrainians in fact it is Russians. Western historians only in the 20th century had called their - "Ukrainians".
Ukrainians do not fight against the Donbas, almost. Basically, fighting Nazis from western Ukraine.
In Donbass no Russian army. Here are fighting Russians who live here 1,000 years.
The first Russian state Kievan Rusj was here.
They are the locals. And, of course, volunteers from around the world help us!
The State Dept. United States began the war , who arranged the illegal coup in Kiev.
And he led the Ukrain. Nazis to power.
Putin does not want the new lands, otherwise would have long ago captured the whole of the Ukraine!
The Kiev Nazis commit genocide!

Syrian Civil War 2015 - Casualties and Severe Demage Due to War
The armed opposition consists of various groups that were formed during the course of the conflict, primarily the Free Syrian Army, which was the first to take up arms in 2011, and the Islamic Front, formed in 2013. In 2013, Hezbollah entered the war in support of the Syrian Army.[76][77] In the east, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a jihadist militant group originating from Iraq, made rapid military gains in both Syria and Iraq, eventually conflicting with the other rebels. By July 2014, ISIL controlled a third of Syria's territory and most of its oil and gas production, thus establishing itself as the major opposition force.[78]
By July 2013, the Syrian government was in control of approximately 30–40% of the country's territory and 60% of the Syrian population.[79] A United Nations report in late 2012 described the conflict as being "overtly sectarian in nature", between mostly Alawite government forces, militias and other Shia groups[80] fighting largely against Sunni-dominated rebel groups,[81][82] although both opposition and government forces have denied it.[83][84] Due to foreign involvement, this conflict has been called a proxy war.[85]
As of January 2015, the death toll had risen above 220,000,[86] with estimates in April 2015 as high as 310,000.[87] International organizations have accused the Syrian government, ISIL and other opposition forces of severe human rights violations, with many massacres occurring.[88][89][90][91][92] Chemical weapons have been used many times during the conflict as well.[93][94][95] The Syrian government is reportedly responsible for the majority of civilian casualties and war crimes, often through bombings.[88][90][96][97] In addition, tens of thousands of protesters and activists have been imprisoned and there are reports of torture in state prisons.[98][99][100][101]
The severity of the humanitarian disaster in Syria has been outlined by the UN and many international organizations. More than 7.6 million Syrians have been displaced, and more than 4 million have fled the country to countries such as Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt and have become refugees. Millions more have been left in poor living conditions with shortages of food and drinking water.

Syria: Conflict's "crucial juncture" was US invasion of Iraq - Assad
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that both the invasion of Iraq by the US and the West's intervention in Afghanistan in the nineteen eighties, were crucial to the ongoing conflict in Syria, during an interview with RT's Lizzie Phelan and Sargon Hadaya and other Russian journalists in Damascus.
Bashar al-Assad, Syrian President (Arabic): "You might be surprised if I tell that the crucial juncture in what happened in Syria is something that many people wouldn't even think of. It was the Iraq war in 2003, when the United States invaded Iraq. We were strongly opposed to that invasion, because we knew that things were moving in the direction of dividing societies and creating unrest. And we are Iraq's neighbours. At that time, we saw that the war would turn Iraq into a sectarian country; into a society divided against itself. To the west of Syria there is another sectarian country - Lebanon. We are in the middle. We knew well that we would be affected. Consequently, the beginning of the Syrian crisis, or what happened in the beginning, was the natural result of that war and the sectarian situation in Iraq, part of which moved to Syria, and it was easy for them to incite some Syrian groups on sectarian grounds. The second point, which might be less crucial, is that when the West adopted terrorism officially in Afghanistan in the early 1980s and called terrorists at that time 'freedom fighters', and then in 2006 when Islamic State appeared in Iraq under American sponsorship and they didn't fight it. All these things together created the conditions for the unrest with Western support and Gulf money, particularly form Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and with Turkish logistic support, particularly since President Erdogan belongs intellectually to the Muslim Brotherhood. Consequently, he believes that, if the situation changed in Syria, Egypt, and Iraq, it means the creation of a new sultanate; not an Ottoman sultanate this time, but a sultanate for the Brotherhood extending from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean and ruled by Erdogan. All these factors together brought things to what we have today. Once again, I say that there were mistakes, and mistakes always create gaps and weak points, but they are not sufficient to cause that alone, and they do not justify what happened. And if these gaps and weak points are the cause, why didn't they lead to revolutions in the Gulf states - particularly in Saudi Arabia which doesn't know anything about democracy? The answer is self-evident, I believe."

Iraq War 2015 Intense Heavy Urban Firefights in Battle for Baiji 1080p
Iran was the only outside power that deployed advisers and special forces in the country when IS took control of Mosul and directly organised the anti-IS offensive.
However, it does not have the same level of influence over all militia.
Shia militia have their own differences and fought one another over the past decade. However, when IS seized control of much of northern and western Iraq they unified as part of a concerted effort to defend their country and places of worship.
This is not to say that intra-Shia clashes will not take place again in the future.
To swell the ranks of the anti-IS forces, in the absence of a functioning Iraqi army, Iraq's Grand Ayatollah Sistani, the leading cleric in the Shia world, issued a religious edict calling on Iraqis to take up arms.
Tens of thousands of Shia volunteers, as well as many Sunni tribal fighters, were immediately mobilised as a result to form what is known as the Popular Mobilisation. The Washington Post reports that Shia militia comprise up to 120,000 fighters.
Iranian backing
The proliferation of Shia militia in Iraq after 2003 was also fuelled by the support Iran gave Shia bodies willing to act as its proxies.
Iran has actively supported Iraq's Shia groups since 1979. The most powerful militia group in Iraq today is the Badr Brigade, which was formed in and by Iran in the early 1980s, during the Iran-Iraq war.
Iran has considerable influence over Iraq's Shia militia because of its heavy on-the-ground presence.

Last summer, the group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) swept from Syria into northern Iraq, routing Iraqi security forces and seizing the city of Mosul. Soon afterward, the group declared the establishment of a dubious "caliphate" in the area it controls and rebranded itself the Islamic State. With Iraq's army weakened and radical militants advancing on Baghdad, the country's Iran-backed Shia militias — which have their own history of sectarian abuses — fought back, halting the Islamic State's progress.

It has been 10 years since the US-led invasion of Iraq, which marked a turning point in the West's so-called war on terror. The pretext of the Iraq war was security and freedom, but the bombastic and openly pronounced objective was no less than remaking the greater Middle East region. For the US, Iraq became a quagmire and a humiliation - a strategic and moral failure that the country has spent the last four years trying to forget. As Africa now becomes the new front line in the 'war o

The Battle for Iraq: Shia Militias vs. the Islamic State
EXCLUSIVE: VICE News Meets Barack Obama: http://bit.ly/1wT03Bi
Last summer, the group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) swept from Syria into northern Iraq, routing Iraqi security forces and seizing the city of Mosul. Soon afterward, the group declared the establishment of a dubious "caliphate" in the area it controls and rebranded itself the Islamic State. With Iraq's army weakened and radical militants advancing on Baghdad, the country's Iran-backed Shia militias — which have their own history of sectarian abuses — fought back, halting the Islamic State's progress.
The militias have successfully combated Islamic State fighters on the ground with the assistance of air strikes from a US-led military coalition. But their growing influence within Iraq's government amid accusations that they have harmed Sunnis in areas that they control has led many to fear that the militias threaten the country's fragile sectarian and political balance.
VICE News traveled to Iraq in December to witness firsthand how Shia militias are taking the fight to the Islamic State, and to document the fallout of their controversial rise to power.

Was the Iraq War About Oil All Along? Gore Vidal on Dreaming of War: Blood for Oil (2003)
Significant opposition to the Iraq War occurred worldwide, both before and during the initial 2003 invasion of Iraq by the United States, United Kingdom, and smaller contingents from other nations, and throughout the subsequent occupation. People and groups opposing the war include the governments of many nations which did not take part in the invasion, and significant sections of the populace in those that did.
Rationales for opposition include the belief that the war is illegal according to the United Nations Charter, or would contribute to instability both within Iraq and the wider Middle East. Critics have also questioned the validity of the war's stated objectives, such as a supposed link between the country's Ba'athist government and the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, and its possession of weapons of mass destruction "certified" by the Niger uranium forgeries. The latter was claimed by the United States during the run-up to the war, but no such weapons have since been found.
Within the United States, popular opinion on the war has varied significantly with time. Although there was significant opposition to the idea in the months preceding the attack, polls taken during the invasion showed that a majority of US citizens supported their government's action. However, public opinion had shifted by 2004 to a majority believing that the invasion was a mistake, and has remained so since then. There has also been significant criticism of the war from US politicians and national security and military personnel, including generals who served in the war and have since spoken out against its handling.
Worldwide, the war and occupation have been officially condemned by 54 countries and the heads of many major religions. Popular anti-war feeling is strong in these and other countries, including the US' allies in the conflict, and many have experienced huge protests totalling millions of participants.
Critics of the invasion claimed that it would lead to the deaths of thousands of Iraqi civilians and soldiers as well as Coalition soldiers, and that it would moreover damage peace and stability throughout the region and the world.
Another oft-stated reason for opposition is the Westphalian concept that foreign governments should never possess a right to intervene in another sovereign nation's internal affairs (including terrorism or any other non-international affair). Giorgio Agamben, the Italian philosopher, has also offered a critique of the logic of preemptive war.
Others did accept a limited right for military intervention in foreign countries, but nevertheless opposed the invasion on the basis that it was conducted without United Nations' approval and was hence a violation of international law.[2] According to this position, adherence by the United States and the other great powers to the UN Charter and to other international treaties to which they are legally bound is not a choice but a legal obligation; exercising military power in violation of the UN Charter undermines the rule of law and is illegal vigilantism on an international scale. Benjamin B. Ferencz, who served as the U.S.'s Chief Prosecutor of Nazi war crimes at the Nuremberg Trials following World War II, has denounced the Iraq War as an aggressive war (named at Nuremberg as "the supreme international crime") and stated his belief that George W. Bush, as the war's "initiator", should be tried for war crimes.[3]
There was also skepticism of U.S. claims that Iraq's secular government had any links to Al-Qaeda, the Islamic fundamentalist terrorist group considered responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
Some expressed puzzlement that the United States would consider military action against Iraq and not against North Korea, which claimed it already had nuclear weapons and had announced that it was willing to contemplate war with the United States. This criticism intensified when North Korea reportedly conducted a nuclear weapons test on October 9, 2006.
There was also criticism of Coalition policy by those who did not believe that military actions would help to fight terror, with some believing that it would actually help Al-Qaeda's recruitment efforts; others believed that the war and immediate post-war period would lead to a greatly increased risk that weapons of mass destruction would fall into the wrong hands (including Al-Qaeda).
Both inside and outside of the U.S., some argued that the Bush Administration's rationale for war was to gain control over Iraqi natural resources (primarily petroleum). These critics felt that the war would not help to reduce the threat of WMD proliferation, and that the real reason for the war was to secure control over the Iraqi oil fields at a time when US links with Saudi Arabia were seen to be at risk. "No blood for oil" was a popular protest cry prior to the invasion in March 2003.

1990 Gulf Kuwait War- A Documentary on Oil Rich Kuwait After Kuwait Iraq War.
This is a Documentary on on Oil Rich Kuwait After Kuwait Iraq War in High Definition
The Kuwaiti oil fires were caused by Iraqi military forces setting fire during the Gulf war to a reported 605 to 732 oil wells along with an unspecified number[quantify] of oil filled low-lying areas, such as "oil lakes" and "fire trenches", as part of a scorched earth policy while retreating from Kuwait in 1991 due to the advances of Coalition military forces in the Persian Gulf War. The fires of Kuwait War started in January and February 1991, and the first well fires were extinguished in early April 1991, with the last well capped on November 6, 1991.
The burning Kuwait Oil wells needed to be extinguished as without active efforts Kuwait would lose billions of dollars in oil revenues as it was predicted that the fires would burn from 2–5 years before losing pressure and going out on their own, optimists estimating 2 years and pessimists estimating 5 while the majority estimated 3 years until this occurred
The companies responsible for extinguishing the fires initially were Red Adair Company (now sold off to Global Industries of Louisiana), Boots and Coots, and Wild Well Control. Other companies including Safety Boss, Cudd Well/Pressure Control, Neal Adams Firefighters, and Kuwait Wild Well Killers were also contracted.
According to Larry H. Flak, a petroleum engineer for Boots and Coots International Well Control, 90% of all the 1991 fires in Kuwait were put out with nothing but sea water, sprayed from powerful hoses at the base of the fire. The water supply to the arid desert region was supplied by re-purposing the oil pipelines that prior to the arson attack, pumped oil to the Persian Gulf, the pipeline was mildly damaged and once repaired its flow was reversed to pump Persian gulf seawater to the burning oil wells. The extinguishing rate was approximately 1 every 7–10 days at the start of efforts but then with experience gained and the removal of the mine fields that surrounded the burning wells, the rate increased to 2 or more per day
For stubborn oil well fires, the use of a gas turbine to blast a large volume of water at high velocity at the fire proved popular with firefighters in Kuwait and was brought to the region by Hungarians equipped with MiG-21 engines mounted originally on a T34 (later replaced with T55) tank, called Big wind. It extinguished 9 fires in 43 days.
In fighting a fire at a directly vertical spewing wellhead, high explosives, such as dynamite were used to create a blast wave that pushes the burning fuel and local atmospheric oxygen away from the well. (This is a similar principle to blowing out a candle.) The flame is removed and the fuel can continue to spill out without catching on fire. Generally explosives were placed within 55 gallon drums, the explosives surrounded by fire retardant chemicals, and then the drums are wrapped with insulating material with a horizontal crane being used to bring the drum as close to the burning area as possible.
The firefighting teams titled their occupation as "Operation Desert Hell" after Operation Desert Storm

As Africa now becomes the new front line in the 'war on terror', Empire asks: have the Europeans learned from America's mistakes?

THE WAR TAPES
(2006 Iraq War Documentary)
The War Tapes is the first documentary film of the 2003 invasion of Iraq to be produced by the soldiers themselves. The film (released commercially in 2006) follows three New Hampshire National Guard soldiers before, during, and after their deployment to Iraq about a year after the invasion. Their unit was Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain), which deployed from March 2004 to February 2005.
The three soldiers with cameras featured in the film are SPC Michael Moriarty who signed up in a burst of patriotism after 9/11 and asked to be shipped to Iraq. His colleagues are SGT Stephen Pink, who joined the National Guard to help pay for college, and SGT Zack Bazzi. Two other soldiers, SGT Duncan Domey and SPC Brandon Wilkins, also filmed their entire deployments for the film. In all, 17 soldiers were given cameras and recorded 800 hours of tape in Iraq. Stateside interviews with the soldiers and their families made up an additional 200 hours of tape. The "cast" was narrowed to three soldiers for the final feature length film. They were chosen in part because they were seen by the director and producers as the "main characters".
The film won the prize for Best International Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in May 2006 and also Best International Documentary at BRITDOC in July 2006. The documentary was released for sale on DVD May 15, 2007. Moreover, it is possibly the most innovative result of the embedded reporter program. In this case the reporter did not go to Iraq, but provided cameras to the soldiers, and provided direction on filming to them via instant messaging and email.

From the crumpled remains of deposed leader Saddam Hussein's statue, to ink-stained fingertips of happy Iraqis signifying a first free election, to the rise of an insurgency against coalition troops that introduced the scourge of improvised explosive devices. The timeline since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq tells a tale of events that enveloped both countries and still does to this day.

Gulf War Documentary: Desert Storm Ground War (Iraq War Documentary Full)
Dessert Storm Ground War, a great Gulf war documentary, focuses on the weapons used on the Iraq War and Iraq War battles.
The Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991), codenamed Operation Desert Shield (2 August 1990 – 17 January 1991) for operations leading to the buildup of troops and defense of Saudi Arabia and Operation Desert Storm (17 January 1991 – 28 February 1991) in its combat phase, was a war waged by coalition forces from 34 nations led by the United States against Iraq in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait.

Seven months after war was declared over, journalist Sean Langan arrived in Iraq. He spent three months living in the notorious Sunni triangle, deftly moving between resistance fighters and the American troops. Travelling where few journalists dare to go and filming alone, the producer has captured a rare grassroots view of the war still raging across Iraq.

Col. James Steele: America's mystery man in Iraq - Full Documentary
Iraq war: 10 years on
A 15-month investigation by the Guardian and BBC Arabic reveals how retired US colonel James Steele, a veteran of American proxy wars in El Salvador and Nicaragua, played a key role in training and overseeing US-funded special police commandos who ran a network of torture centers in Iraq. Another special forces veteran, Colonel James Coffman, worked with Steele and reported directly to General David Petraeus, who had been sent into Iraq to organize the Iraqi security services.

Saddam Hussein vs. The Coalition: Behind the Military Strategies is volume three of the four-volume set titled Persian Gulf: Images of a Conflict, which chronicles Operation Desert Storm. This documentary series offers a news account of the first war in history to be broadcast live. This program of the series provides an in-depth look at Saddam Hussein's military tactics and why he failed in his conquest of the oil-rich nation of Kuwait. Volume one, Prelude to War, features a Diane Sawyer interview with Hussein and focuses on the early days of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Volume two, The Allies Strike, provides graphic coverage of the war from Saudi Arabia, Baghdad, and other key Middle East locations. In the final tape of the collection, A Conversation with General Schwarzkopf, journalist Barbara Walters conducts a penetrating interview with the commander of the United States Central Command, Norman Schwarzkopf. Schwarzkopf was in charge of Allied forces in the Persian Gulf conflict and is credited with defeating Hussein. The collection of news reports and interviews provides a unique and comprehensive record of Operation Desert Storm.
